Pont-l’Abbé
Dive into the heart of the Bigouden
Capital of the Bigouden area, Pont-l’Abbé gets its name from the bridge that crosses the ria and separates it from a pond that comes and goes with the tides. The bridge, which has buildings on it and is inhabited, unites the neighbourhood of Lambour to the heart of the town, built on the right bank around the Château des Barons du Pont, which has become the town hall in the era of the Republic.
Just 15 km from our hotel, the small historic and tourist town is the ideal place to do some boutique shopping. Indeed, it has a multitude of shops (more than 250 for just 8000 inhabitants), with unique decor shops, antique and vintage shops holding rare gems, a number of art galleries and a lovely, lively town centre. The squares come to life with the big market on Thursday mornings throughout the year. Here you can discover regional produce, food items, clothes, home furnishings, decorative objects and artisan goods.
Pont-l’Abbé has a wealth of historical treasures for you to uncover, such as at the Musée Bigouden housed in the medieval keep of the former Château des Barons du Pont. Over several floors, you can discover its four exhibition rooms. Peasant and maritime living conditions, furniture and handicrafts, and the costumes and richly embroidered headdresses from this region make it a museum of art and popular tradition worth visiting.
